QUARTERLY MESSAGE FROM GARY

When I was around 13 or so, I had the fantasy that all of my distractions and behavior issues could be eliminated if I just decided to be PERFECT! I remember it … I’d say, “I’m gonna be perfect! Starting … right … now!” And then, of course, moments later, I did something that was, of course, less than perfect. It took me years of thought and shrinks to drill into me that perfection is impossible, often our enemy and a sure-fire way to never be happy. (All of that self-help/positive thinking stuff aside … I’m a fan of it, but an overdose will make you feel as imperfect as can be!)

So while perfect is elusive, the “quest for better” is a prime motivator in most everyone’s life. Certainly, it’s mandatory in the business world. If your company isn’t improving its products/programs/schedules/promotion, etc., then you’re looking at (or ignoring) a dangerous future. Here at the ol’ CABLEready, we like to get better all the time … not just in the programs we license, but in the services we offer. You’ll all recall the introduction of our sister company, CableU.tv, just 5 years ago … with the goal of leveling the programming playing field with details, data and independent analysis for every cable network out there. Since then, just about every trade and research firm has begun offering network-info sites. Names, interviews, that sort of thing. Helpful, for sure … we use them all the time … but not nearly as complete or up-to-date as CableU.tv … none offer analysis, for example.

But now, CableU.tv separates itself from the pack AGAIN! For the first time in our business, networks and production companies are able to update any information about their respective companies, from staff changes to new schedules to new programs in development … CableU.tv will be the most timely source for crucial programming information because it’s now user-updated … and sent to our subscribers immediately.

We feel this one change makes CableU.tv the leader in cable network information and analysis … but there is a whole lot more, including a faster and deeper search engine. We’re taking a great service and making it better. Perfect? You be the judge …

Hope your holiday season was perfect … it stayed tame around here, for a change. It seemed the whole world slowed down this year … we all deserved it!

As always, we’ll be at NATPE and RealScreen Summit, and look forward to seeing you there…to show you CableU, and also a plethora of new series for acquisition and in development. We’ll see you there, I am sure … we’re hard to miss!

One thing just might be perfect … CABLEready‘s exciting 20th Anniversary!! 20 years of programs and service to television, cable in the US and all channels around the world. Your support has been perfect and we aim to make this year’s many celebrations dedicated to YOU … because, when it comes to clients … ours are PERFECT!

Happy New Year!

Lifetime secured the television rights to 100 episodes of the long-running Medical Detectivesseries, while Cooking Channel licensed the first two seasons of A Cook’s Tour, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s first TV series. Velocity picked up the rights to Saw Dogs, which is about a team of chainsaw sculptors.

Medstar’s Medical Detectives, which began airing on TLC, profiles intriguing crimes, accidents and outbreaks of disease from around the world. It features cutting-edge forensic techniques and evidence, combined with true-to-life reenactments and profiles of the people who lived through the events. A Cook’s Tour, produced by The New York Times Company, stars Bourdain as he travels around the world on a quest for the ultimate dining experience. Saw Dogs, produced by Buck Productions, uncovers the world of chainsaw carving, a folk art that has been little known to the masses for more than 50 years.

Gary Lico, the president and CEO of CABLEready, said, “As we approach our 20th anniversary as a company, we continue to expand our reach as a provider of high-quality content that we have developed for or licensed to U.S. cable networks that attracts both major advertisers and a loyal viewing audience.”
