SEASON TWO
Midsummer
Midsummer is a holiday that dates back centuries to Pagan times. Today, though, it is a holiday in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, which is second only to Christmas in importance. Guad Venegas travels to Latvia and Estonia to try and partake in Midsummer traditions such as trying to find love and creating giant bonfires.
Ekstremesportveko
The ski resort town of Voss, Norway comes alive in late June as over 35,000 spectators and competitors take part in this week-long extreme sports festival. Since the Veko is held in Norway, nearby glaciers are utilized, enabling both summer and winter sports events in the same week. Guad takes advantage of the festival's innovative "try-it" pass, where anyone can show up and get crash courses in nearly every sport at the festival. With sports during the day and parties all night, what's not to like?
World Wife-Carrying Festival
The town of Sonkajarvi, Finland may be just a speck on the map; but for one day in early July it becomes the epicenter of bizarre sport competitions. For nearly twenty years, this small town has, with a firm tongue-in-cheek, celebrated the time honored tradition of bandits running into a town, clubbing a woman and running off with her. Nowadays though, the competition is a weekend long festival where teams of one man and one woman run against one another on an obstacle course that is both for fun-seekers and the serious competitors. Guad competes for the wife-carrying grand prize: the woman’s weight in beer.
Wakestock
Every August, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada is descended up on by tens of thousands of music and wakeboard fans. Wakestock is a combination music festival and international tour stop for wakeboarding and wakeskating professionals. Guad gets a crash course from four-time World Champion Shaun Murray in wakeboarding, then tries his hand at wakeskating to find out which discipline suits him better to enter the amateur competition at Wakestock.
Chiditarod
In the dead of winter, most folks bundle up and stay inside. But that's not the attitude for everyone in Chicago. It may be cold out, but here, they embrace it and don't let it prevent them from having a great time. Every winter/spring, thousands of people form five person teams and grab a shopping cart, that is styled out, in order to run the Chiditarod. The race is run throughout the west side of Chicago and is billed as the world's largest mobile food drive and pub crawl, as teams need to bring fifty pounds of food and stop at five checkpoints - which are local bars. Guad, captains a shopping cart-turned shrimp boat to see if he can sail to victory.
Sunsation
The last weekend of the ski season has historically been a dead weekend. But, Copper Mountain has come up with the remedy for that; a weekend filled with crazy competitions for one last blast of the ski season. Guad participates in the Copperman race, an obstacle course up and down the ski slope and the Slope Soakers Rail jam. But, Slope soakers is not like any other rail jam. This contest features a rail floating on inner tubes over icy water. Can Guad clear the rail, or will he crash and freeze?
Warrior Dash
Extreme obstacle courses gained popularity in recent years, but only the Warrior Dash can claim to be the first and the biggest. Established outside Chicago, the Warrior Dash sees up to twenty thousand people per event stop, competing in an all out obstacle course that includes jumping over fire and swimming through mud under barbed wire. Guad gets to meet the brains behind this race, and also trains to become a 'gentleman warrior' by learning a lost martial art called bartitsu, all to focus himself on achieving Warrior Dash glory.
Art Basel
Although Art Basel at its core is an art fair, the event has grown so large in recent years that it has become Miami's largest party and biggest weekend of the year. Hundreds of locations across the city throw some sort of event or party. Others transform into a gallery for the first week of December. Guad checks out the main art fair, where half a billion dollars of art exchanges hands, and the hip Wynwood district that is known as a street art mecca. The excitement of the atmosphere compels Guad to develop his own street artist persona and hit the streets of South Beach to try and create his own masterpiece.
